ACC 2006 PANEL:
The effectiveness of autonomic research for networks and systems advances

Autonomic has become one of the buzz words in communication networks.
There are multiple workshops and autonomic conferences already in place, also most of the
key conferences and workshops include "autonomic" in their call for papers. It is time
to take a step back and see what has been achieved so far. The panel will address this issue and
discuss the effectiveness of the research conducted in the field as well as the if
there has already been an impact on industry.

Panel participants:

  • Martin May, ETHZ, Zurich ,Switzerland (Chair)
  • Dave Lewis Trinity College Dublin Ireland
  • Marco Conti, IIT-CNR,  Italy
  • Murat Demirbas ,  SUNY Buffalo, USA
  • Alberto Leongarcia, University of Toronto, Canada

About Professor Alberto Leon-Garcia, ACC 2006 Keynote Speaker

ACC2006 Keynote, Prof. Leon-GarciaProfessor Alberto Leon-Garcia is a Fellow of the IEEE "For contributions to multiplexing and switching of integrated services traffic". Professor Leon-Garcia holds the Jeffrey Skoll Chair in Computer Networks and Innovation.  He also holds a Canada Research Chair in Autonomic Service Architecture.  From 1999 to 2002, he was founder and CTO of AcceLight Networks in Ottawa which developed leading edge optical multiservice switching equipment. He holds several patents and has published research extensively in the areas of switch architecture and traffic management. Professor Leon-Garcia is recognized as an innovator in networking education. In 1986, he led the development of the University of Toronto - Northern Telecom Network Engineering Program. He has also led in 1997 the development of the Master of Engineering in Telecommunications program, and the communications and networking options in the undergraduate computer engineering program. He is author of the leading textbooks: Probability and Random Processes for Electrical Engineering, and Communication Networks: Fundamental Concepts and Key Architecture.  Professor Leon-Garcia's current research interests are focused on application-oriented networking and autonomic resources management.
