| Paper | ||
Reviewer Ref. No 1011
Technical/Business case Quality
Does not sufficiently illustrate the exploitation and impact of technologies or lessons learnt
The paper tackles important aspects of autonomic systems. The abstract and introduction are very clear but the next sections start tangling too much, especially section 3 where the Self-Awareness Functions (SAFs) are extracted but not very well explained. The paper is useful because of its effort to summarize the existing state of the art in autonomic system but a better and understable description is needed. References are ok, but it would be good to extract the conclusions of the corresponding papers instead of include complete paragraphs between quotations.
Industrial Significance and Eventual Benefits
Should try to give examples of potential applications - even if theoretical
It would be good to write the benefits of self*- properties in general and specially to point out the benefits of SAFs. Some examples would be very explanatory and useful.
Balance, Structure and Clarity
Move the explanation of the contents of every section to the end of the Introduction section instead of at the beginning. Use bulletpoints when enumerating important aspects such as the three factors proposed for the standarization of the autonomic communication systems in the introduction. Style: too much use of - when other characters like ":" or ";" or "( )" would be much more appropiate. There are some words whose style is misleading, with two letters of the same word too close. Include the meaning of multi-RAT. multi-Radio Access Technology???. the same with any other not worldwide known acronyms. Take a look at the language. There are some typos and unconnected sentences. Some examples: see the "common components" paragraph in the Introduction section or the beginning of section 3.1. Some typos: "self-ware", capital letters after colon, the table in section 3.1 does not have a table head. Remove the article "the" with references.
Conclusion and Recommendations
What should happen next? What research/marketing/exploitation?
The conclusions, like the abstract and the introduction is clear enough, but remove the paragraph in quotations extracted from another paper.
Reviewer Ref. No 1023
Technical/Business case Quality
Should give more detail of work
- More detail and insight on the work needed to model the proposed SAFs in section 3 would be appropriate. - Also a discussion on how these SAFs will work in a broader systematic context would make it easier to understand the ideas presented, for readers not so familiar with this area of research.
Industrial Significance and Eventual Benefits
- The significance of autonomic systems is self-evident, and this paper posseses an architectural and modeling view rather than being an implementation oriented paper. Some points mentioned here did not appear fully relevant for the paper being reviewed.
Balance, Structure and Clarity
Content is not well presented (structure, language, style, format)
Key information missing from paper
- For figure 1, the acronyms (S, A, AC) may be explained in text. - In section 2.3: ... later test depend on simpler ones. -> ... later tests depend on simpler ones. - In section 3.1: I found the sentence ..., which opinions are mapped to different SAFs." grammatically incorrect. - In section 3.2: "The challenge is however is in that..." -> "The challenge, however, is in that..." - In section 3.3: "This position paper [9]..." -> "The position paper [9]..." - In section 3.6: I found the sentence ..., which "framework should be enhanced with new/updated performance indicators... grammatically incorrect. - In the references section, the title of reference 6: A survey of autonomic communcations -> A survey of autonomic communications - More insight on the aspects of the proposed self-awareness functions and more concrete definitions for these functions are needed for section 3. The discussion on the proposed SAFs is quite abstract.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Should summarise the important points
What should happen next? What research/marketing/exploitation?
- At least the SAFs outlined in section 3 could be summarized and discussed as a whole (in a broader context) in section 4 (conclusion). This would also help to clarify the ideas presented. - A discussion on how the proposed SAFs will be incorporated to break the tradition of fixing abstraction layers at design time would be appropriate. - Future research directions and points to be addressed can be stated to stimulate future research.

Thank you for submitting a paper for consideration for ICT-MobileSummit 2009. Please see feedback above from the Technical Programme Committee (TPC) Members who double blind peer reviewed the paper submitted. Your paper has been provisionally accepted, based on the understanding that the final paper submitted will be updated and modified along the lines proposed by the TPC. It is necessary for all final papers to be submitted online via your "My Page" on the ICT-MobileSummit 2009 Conference Portal (www.ICT-MobileSummit.eu/2009) by 31 March. To ensure consistent presentation in the conference proceedings, all final papers must use the ICT-MobileSummit paper template - page size, font size, paragraph spacing, styles of headings, references, figures etc. All final papers should be submitted in Word or PDF format and should include full contact details for authors/co-authors using the style outlined. If you are preparing your paper in Latex, please include the conference branding which will be circulated in early March prior to converting to PDF. If you wish to change the presenter for this paper in the programme, please contact the Conference Secretariat (secretariat@ICT-MobileSummit.eu). Each presenter in the Programme should be unique. It is necessary for all presenters to complete payment registration by 06 April, prior to the publication of the Final Programme, to ensure that your paper is included in the conference proceedings. The author fee is available to the paper presenter in the programme (one per paper). Co-authors who wish to participate will register as delegates. Please ensure that you complete online registration in sufficient time for payment to be received by 06 April.
